I attended the celebration meal for Jenny, a member and organiser of the Nottingham Social Activities Group, on Saturday 5th June. We met in the Hand & Heart pub on Derby Road near Canning Circus, and after a short while walked up the road to the Warsaw Diner, which in the evening is a Polish restaurant (in the morning an American diner, and we’ve often gone there for breakfast). I have to say that altho Polish cuisine often has a bad reputation what we were served was excellent: the cook (and proprietress?) is really good. Even tho I’ve got the impression Central and East European food is dominated by meat there were some fine vegetarian options. At the end we all had vodka shots or something similar; apparently that’s a Polish tradition. 🙂 I decided we ought to visit the restaurant again in the group.
Jenny was celebrating both her birthday and moving house. There were only five or six of us but in a way that made it better for being more intimate. While still in the Hand & Heart I took the opportunity to spy out the caves, which I intended to feature in a future visit in the group. After the meal we braved the considerable rain to go to the Bell Inn in town and had more drinks and chat.
