We had the third in our series of pub crawls that I’m organising in the Nottingham Social Activities Group on the 1st May – despite being in May it counted as April’s crawl. It was based on a route along the canal, from Fellows, Morton and Clayton via the Canalhouse and Wetherspoons’ Lloyd’s #1 (the Coach Inn) to the Navigation on Wilford Street.
In the end we skipped the Wetherspoons because it was with youngsters packed with loud dancy music in the dark; it looked frightful. Instead we went straight to the Navigation, and then I talked the other two into trying the Newshouse, which was a little way off and which I had never been to before. This turned out to be a good idea, because it was a lovely little pub with great beer. I’ve put it on the end of May’s crawl #4, East Side Story.
FMC was also packed, but not in such an unpleasant way (tho it was hard to make yourself heard). By contrast the Canalhouse and Navigation were relatively empty. The Navigation was another new one on me, and will probably be worth going back to, in the summer perhaps when apparently (according to online reviews) it’s lovely to sit outside with a pint watching the canal, wharf and narrowboats.
